i rem there was once i asked a crush, "Why do u want so much money?"
the impression my crush had on me probably was crushed also because he irritatedly asked, "What do u mean by that? Y not?"
somehow being rich was never topmost on my agenda. i also think dat money only has value when u spend it. So amassing papers with faces and buildings has never been my top priority. this has been further compounded by the obnoxious snobs i've encountered lately.
recently, there were 2 well-primmed women sitting at the table adjacent to mine. A teenage waitress was about to take orders when one asked if she spoke English. After failing to obtain an affirmative, she rudely sent her away and asked for another staff who could speak English when her friend could understand and speak Mandarin. The poor dismissed waitress was left perplexed and possibly with a major bruise on her heart.
Later, one of the women was served a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. She slurped up every drop of it then complained to the manager about the volume of juice, demanding that S$7.00 worthed of orange juice should take up more than a mouthful's consumption. The manager politely explained that each glass was routinely filled with the amount yielded by one orange. The customer grudgingly accepted the explanation and continued grumbling. Subsequently when a waitress asked if she could clear the glass that held the juice, the diner said that she wants to polish off the ice in the glass.
I WAS APPALLED! Why are these people who spend thousands of dollars on handbags n branded goods making such a big fuss about orange juices???? And does having too much money numb their sensitivity towards others' feelings? Incidents like these cause me to think that financial status is inversely proportional to graciousness.
Thank God He changed my views this afternoon when I went for the medical mission team meeting. Apparently, Korean businessmen in other parts of the world, organise medical missions to their factories overseas so that their employees have a chance to listen to the gospel. They allow their employees time off to be at the makeshift clinics and even provide for the mission teams who are serving. It reminds me of the early churches that shared their finances and freely gave their belongings so that others may go in peace to preach Christ.
I pray that God make me rich if I may also be part of this movement.
Well, monetary richness aside. Today I experience God working even in tough circumstances. One of my co-worker delivered yesterday to a baby with cleft palate. The woman had a rude shock since an earlier fetal anomaly scan did not reveal this. This confirms that God disposes still.
By His grace, shared about my beliefs as I reminded her that God has perfect plans for everyone. Even for her baby who might be termed by man as having a defect. But God used it so He might be glorified. She comforted herself by reminding that this life is God's gift to her. although the God she proclaims is not mine. I thank God for her demonstration of being thankful in all circumstances as well as the opportunity to share with her that my God is one who has perfect plans for all of us.
The hands dat flung stars into space. Would He not have perfect and beautiful plans for our lives? How can dat be?Labels: .
